Surviving Utopia
Tim Stoen was once captivated by Jim Jones’ vision of an ideal society where equality and love would thrive. As Jones’ legal advisor and close confidant, Tim believed he was helping to build a utopia. Surviving Utopia becomes a haunting reflection of the tragedy that unfolded, as the dream he once supported transformed into one of the worst mass tragedies in modern history. The Jonestown massacre, where over 900 people lost their lives in a mass murder-suicide, shocked the world. Among the victims was Tim’s only son, John. For Tim, this documentary is not just a recounting of past events; it is the profoundly personal and agonizing story of how his pursuit of a perfect society led to unimaginable loss.
